Meet Penny!

Penny is a 2 year old female Lab mix. She was born at a kill shelter in South Carolina. Save A Pet rescued her mom and siblings, and she was adopted at 8 weeks.

It was discovered that she had hydrocephalus and with a heavy heart was returned. Penny has been in foster care, but is now back at SAP.

Penny is the kind of dog who will keep herself happily busy with toys, then curl up beside you for a cozy night in.

She is house trained, not destructive, and incredibly affectionate with people. She has never shown any aggression toward humans and is gentle even when it comes to food, toys, or treats being taken from her.

Penny does have hydrocephalus, but she has been seen by a neurologist and is stable on her medications. She takes omeprazole and prednisone and continues to thrive.

Where Penny struggles is sharing space around food and confinement with other animals. Because of this, she needs to be the only pet in the home.

What Penny needs is simple:- A home with no other animals- A family who will give her exercise, structure, and love- A couch to snuggle on after a long walk

She has lived with children over 5 years old and done well. She just wants her own people and a chance to relax and be herself without stress.

She is the sweetest girl with so much love to give. Will you be her special hero and make her a very Lucky Penny!

* Transport can be arranged for the right home.

Save-A-Pet is a 501c3 no-kill shelter and has rescued and re-homed over 40,000 companion animals. We rely solely on donations. Save-A-Pet is located in the heart of Long Island in Port Jefferson Station. We have a low-cost vaccination and spay/neuter clinic. At Save-A-Pet’s Long Island animal shelter, we believe it is our moral responsibility to protect and improve the lives of abused, abandoned, and homeless cats and dogs, and to place them in loving permanent homes. We provide spay and neuter services for Long Island feral cats and any necessary medical care for pets. We work diligently to educate the public, especially children, on the importance of pet sterilization, responsible pet ownership, and the humane treatment of animals.
